How to earn DrDoge

Doing science is easier than it looks

Don't get scared. TLDR:

    Just like mining:

  • The more science work you do, the more reward you get.
  • You can scale up multi GPU configurations to do crazy science.
  • There are some inconveniences about setting it up
  • Some hardware is more efficient than others for this usecase.

  • Unlike mining:

  • It's FPGA and ASIC resistant. Scientific work involves complex algorithms, not just basic hash calculations alone.
  • No matter how you look at it, just by participating in the project, you are genuinely helping real scientific research move forward.
DrDoge mining and folding

Step-by-step guide to earning DrDoge (Folding@Home v8.4+)

Honest earning, honest work. (Guide last updated: 2025-06, for Folding@Home v8.4.9)

Step 1: Install MetaMask and create a PulseChain address

  1. Download MetaMask from https://metamask.io/.
  2. Install the browser extension or mobile app.
  3. Create a new wallet or import your existing one.
  4. Add PulseChain to MetaMask:
    • Network Name: PulseChain
    • New RPC URL: https://rpc.pulsechain.com
    • Chain ID: 369
    • Currency Symbol: PLS
    • Block Explorer URL: https://ipfs.scan.pulsechain.com
  5. Save your settings and copy your PulseChain address for later.

Step 2: Download Folding@Home v8.4

  1. Go to the official download page: https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/
  2. Select your OS (Windows, macOS, Linux, or ARM).
  3. Download the latest Folding@Home v8.4 installer for your system.

Step 3: Install Folding@Home

  • Windows/macOS:
    1. Run the downloaded installer.
    2. Choose "Express Install" (recommended for most users).
    3. Finish setup and launch Folding@Home when prompted.
  • Linux (Debian/Ubuntu):
    1. Open a terminal, navigate to the installer location.
    2. Install with: sudo dpkg -i FAHClient_v8.4.x_amd64.deb
    3. (If needed: sudo apt-get install -f to fix dependencies.)
    4. For AMD GPU support, install: sudo apt install rocm-opencl-sdk
  • Linux (Fedora/RedHat):
    1. Install with: sudo rpm -i FAHClient_v8.4.x_x86_64.rpm
    2. For GPU support, ensure OpenCL drivers are installed.
  • After installation: Folding@Home v8.4 automatically starts in PAUSED mode until you complete identity setup!

Step 4: Access Web Control

  1. Open your browser and go to http://client.foldingathome.org/
  2. The Web Control will connect to your local FAH client automatically.
  3. For advanced settings, use the gear or Teams tab in Web Control.

Step 5: Set your username ("DrDoge_YourPulseChainAddress")

  1. In Web Control, find the Identity (or "User/Team") section.
  2. Your username must start with "DrDoge_" and directly followed by your PulseChain address (no spaces).
  3. Example: DrDoge_0x4dE63fc779698C39ac035327A0F56145Ebae174B
  4. Enter the DrDoge team number 1066815 (not mandatory, you can fold under any team)
  5. Important: For v8.4+, the client will NOT start folding until your identity and passkey are set!

Step 6: Get and add your passkey

  1. Go to https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey
  2. Enter your exact username and email address.
  3. Check your inbox for the passkey.
  4. Copy the passkey and enter it in the "Identity" section of Web Control.
  5. Click "Save" or "Update".

Step 7: Start folding!

  1. After entering your username and passkey, click the Start Folding button in Web Control.
  2. Select your resource usage (recommended: Full).
  3. If you have multiple GPUs, Folding@Home will try to use all detected GPUs (see Advanced or Settings tab for GPU selection).

Step 8: Monitor your work units and status

  1. The client will download a work unit (WU) and start working on it. Progress is visible in Web Control.
  2. You can pause/resume folding anytime.
  3. Tip: You earn DrDoge for work units that are fully completed and sent back (proven science!).

Step 9: Check your statistics and rewards

  1. Visit Very proven science or Folding@Home stats or ExtremeOverclocking or Discord.
  2. Search for your exact username to see your points, ranking, and completed work units.
  3. Note: Rewards are calculated based on fully completed work units, not partial progress.

How to earn DrDoge and CureCoin at the same time (Merged folding)
